Trend Forcasting - A/W 16-17

So, for university, we are doing a project on Fashion Visualisation and Communication, in which; we are working a lot with trends, specifically, forecasting them... we had to try and find some on 17-18 but I couldn't find out any of those really, without spending a couple of grand on a membership to a trend forecasting site. I did however, manage to find examples of trends for Autumn and Winter of 2016-2017.

I initially found these via pinterest and then entering the sites that they were pinned from.

| Von Trapp |

This first trend I picked up on focuses on and rustic, Austrian based theme. I includes a lot of open weave wool, tartans, furs, small hats, long or billowing dresses and skirts, and capes. And the color pallette features mostly deeper browns, blues and greys with pops of red and yellows. I have included an image of the Von Trapp family from 'The Sound of Music' as a silhouette reference, most of the clothing I have seen adheres to this, with the main focus on the midi skirts.

This next trend is named Cosmic for obvious reasons, if focuses on a very futuristic and extraordinary nature theme, taking on images of the Aurora Borealis, illuminating and iridescent underwater life and other creatures, and beautiful images of space; i.e - The Milky Way and The Crab Nebula. There are so many gorgeous colours in all of these images, air-go, when you take a look at the colour palette, you will see that there are a whole range of colours that are included in this theme, but the main idea is that there will not be just one that would be used on a garment, several of these would most likely be used at one time with a metallic finish.  

| Wonderland Eclectic |

This trend is really beautiful, it, again, like the previous trend, focuses on a nature theme but this time, with a surrealist twist. The idea behind this trend is so simple yet so compelling. I love the picture of the far right of the side profile woman wearing the matching turban to the backdrop, such gorgeous image and really effective. I really like the soft, off-whites in this collection which are also included alot in the last trend I have included (below) and a lot in current fashion weeks. The whole pallette is really pretty, mostly greens blues and greys with just a pop of peach meaning that blue stands out even more! (Blue and orange are opposite on the colour wheel). Fabrics in this trend haven't been overly indicated, but I am going to make an educated guess and say that there would maybe be alot of natural fabrics relating back to the theme, i.e- Cotton, linen, wool, silk... and maybe some chiffon too depending on the look.  

This trend really reminds me of the work by German Photographer, Loretta Lux. Her work takes on a similar surrealist vibe. Her images are mostly portraits of children and are manipulated in Photoshop to create a painting like aesthetic. They are really quite beautiful.

This last trend is by far my favourite. Although I really love the other trends I have listed, this one, for some reason, really stands out to me. Although the sheer look is 'en vogue' as we speak, this is a really refreshing take on it; with the x-ray concept, known as 'see-through chic'. Obviously this trend will rest heavily on sheer fabrics like Chiffon, Georgette and Voile but it may take a more unconventional route because of the daintiness of this trend and pull in some Latex rubber which is naturally translucent or some of the clear plastic fabric used for rain macs. The colour palette for this trend is just gorgeous, really classic colours. I think buying into simple garments based on these concepts would be a really good investment for a timeless piece.

All in all, I am really excited about what we will see in the A/W 16-17 shows if these forecasts are anything to go by!

Chloe S/S '15

So, for my last university hand in, I had to create a 2 minute video of a collection for S/S 15 show. I decided to go with Chloe. I loved the whole collection, it had a very french folksy theme but translated in a really elegant, dainty and feminine way. The video isn't the best quality as I had a bit of trouble with the editing equiptment so you will notice that it is a little blurry and the sound isnt great, but this can be worked on!! Anyway I hope you enjoy and get a good rounded idea of the collection and some opinionated insights about it. I have also left the voiceover that I put together in text format underneath the video so if you are having trouble with sound, you can have a read.

-I am going to be talking a little bit about my favourite pieces from the Spring/Summer 2015 collection from Chloé, shown at Paris fashion week.

First off, this collection was dedicated to Gaby Aghion, founder of Chloé in 1952, who passed away this past September.

And the collection was designed by Creative Director, Clare Waight Keller.

I feel like this collection went down a very French, folksy, 70’s theme. A lot of crochet and billowing fabrics were shown, making it, in my opinion, a very fun and feminine collection.

SHORT WHITE DRESS IS SHOWN –

I love this first piece. It’s really pretty, girly and fun. A really great way to start things off, it screams spring.

I really like the way that a similar looking; little floaty white dress is shown again at the end of the show, to really round off the collection, which, obviously, you will see later on. 

FALLOW COLOURED DRESS IS SHOWN –

The colour of this next little dress is gorgeous; I would probably describe it as a Fallow Brown. – This whole collection seems to be built on jewel tones which historically/classically are thought of for Autumnal attire/garments.

And you will notice, all the bags featured are made using a warm chestnut leather which are really fluent throughout.

And everything accessories-wise, be it bangles, rings, earrings, buttons or the hardware on the bags; are all a light gold colour which, again, adds to the warm feel of the collection.

The colour translates so well with the fabrics that are used for each piece. All have been created with very light fabrics and some sheer which, really reflects the season.

If any of the pieces, especially the little dresses, are without sleeves, all feature very delicate spaghetti straps. This allows each piece to hang with more weight so the fall is stunning.

All or most of the models are laced into knee-high or ankle-strapped sandals in an antique pink blush colour with a slight wedge.

My favourite pieces in this collection are the longer boho style dresses. They look so elegant and artisan but at the same time look very day wear. I love the fact that all feature excess material, but seem to have been cut on the bias so this leads to them hanging beautifully on the figure.

Here is the last dress shown, which I mentioned earlier, rounding off the collection perfectly.

All in all, I really love this ready-to-wear collection, I think it has been done in a really elegant and dainty way but really fun and playful at the same time.
